Choose Comcast for All Your Sports Coverage

At first glance, there often doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between the many TV service providers who are operating within the marketplace. Most of the major players seem to be offering the same thing – for just about the same price. However, if you were to take a closer look, you’d probably notice some significant differences between the various service options out there. The differences you notice might just cause you to give a bit more thought to where you eventually sign up. When trying to identify the provider who’ll best meet your needs, you first need to determine exactly what those needs are. What exactly are you looking for? What type of programming are you likely to dedicate most of your TV time to viewing? If “Sports!” is the emphatic answer that you come up with, you probably need to look no further than Comcast.

sports coverageA couple of reasons to choose Comcast

Comcast XFINITY cable TV service provides customers with numerous options to watch a wide variety of sports-related programming. Live broadcasts of various games, matches, and tournaments are staples on many of the channels that the company makes available to its subscribers. Here’s a closer look at some of the factors that make XFINITY such an attractive option for sports lovers:

  • Extensive “standard” programming

There are numerous channels included in virtually all of XFINITY’s “regular” service packages that showcase hundreds of hours of sports-related programming annually. Dedicated sports stations such as ESPN, ESPN2, and NBC Sports are among those that you can depend on to transmit high quality content into your home. Here’s a brief breakdown of what you can expect to see when you tune in to these top of the line channels:

  • ESPN is one of America’s premier sports channels. Live telecasts of games from both the professional and collegiate ranks can be viewed on the station throughout the average week. During the NFL’s regular season, ESPN is home to the marquee Monday Night Football game broadcast. Basketball games from the NCAA and NBA traditionally occupy prominent positions on ESPN’s programming menu. It also showcases a wide range of programs that provide the latest news and in-depth analysis of many of your favorite sports – including SportsCenter, Monday Night Countdown (NFL), Baseball Tonight (MLB), and many others.

  • ESPN2 allows viewers to enjoy a very rich mix of programming from traditional and non-traditional sports. It showcases extensive live and delayed match coverage from tennis’ quartet of grand slam events, which includes the US Open and Wimbledon. The channel also presents coverage of niche sports and games such as billiards, poker, etc.

  • NBC Sports is the place to go for coverage of some of the sporting world’s biggest events. The station currently holds the broadcast rights for both the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2014 and 2018 editions of the Winter Olympics. You can also tune in for live game telecasts from the Barclays Premier League, which features some of global soccer’s most popular clubs – including Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

  • Numerous specialized packages

What’s your favorite sport? Can’t make up your mind? Well, you don’t really need to. XFINITY offers a wide range of specialized packages that allow you to enjoy all of the action from your favorite sport(s). If you’re an ice hockey fan, you can witness all the thrills and spills that the NHL serves up with NHL Center Ice. Meanwhile, NBA fans can supplement the coverage they’re able to enjoy on channels such as ESPN and TNT with the NBA League Pass package. Avid followers of professional baseball can also get their weekly fill of MLB action by signing up for MLB Extra Innings. There’s also a specialized package – MLS Direct Kick – that brings the latest live contests from North America’s premier professional soccer league right into the cozy confines of your home. All of these offerings allow you to enjoy a huge number of out-of-market games during the regular seasons of the respective leagues. This means that you won’t always be stuck just watching your team. (You’ll be particularly happy about this if your team just happens to be having one of those rare bad seasons.)

  • Multi-device accessibility

There are times when, for one reason or another, you’re unable to sit around your TV set, grab a can of your favorite beverage and a bowl of snacks, and just relax and enjoy your favorite team’s big playoff game. Oftentimes, you’re prevented from doing so because you have to be on the road heading somewhere or the other. Or, maybe you’re stuck in a business meeting while all the exciting action is unfolding. With XFINITY, such unsavory (torturous) experiences can be a thing of the past. As a Comcast subscriber, you’ll instantly get access to a variety of mobile apps that’ll allow you to stream live sports on a wide range of iOS and Android supported smartphones and tablets. The WatchESPN and XFINITY TV Go apps are just two of the popular pieces of software that can turn your mobile device into sports central.

XFINITY provides extensive live and delayed coverage of Americans’ favorite sports. Programming that features professional and amateur basketball, football, baseball, hockey, and a variety of other sports can be enjoyed when you sign up.

Watch the 2014 Winter Olympics to Catch ALL the Action!

2014 is a year that will be highlighted by some very big and highly anticipated sporting spectacles. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games, which will be staged in Sochi, Russia, is one of the events that will attract the most attention from sports enthusiasts around the world. You can always expect very intense competition when national pride is on the line, particularly when the United States and Russia (formerly part of the Soviet Union) are among the main competitors. However, the inherently friendly nature of Olympic competition should ensure that nothing overshadows the outstanding performances of the thousands of athletes who are expected to compete between February 6 and 23. As always, there are a number of very interesting storylines heading into the event. These storylines have produced many compelling reasons for you to watch the Sochi Olympics. Here’s a look at five of them:

olympic gamesTo see if the US can top the medal table

The US is always one of the top contenders to head the medal table at the Winter Olympic Games. At the last edition of the event in Vancouver, Team USA finished with the most total medals – 37. However, host Canada finished atop the medal table by virtue of winning the most gold medals (14). (The US managed to mine nine golds.) This time round, the US will send one of the largest athlete contingents to the Games. On paper, this should give them as good a chance as any to finish on top of the medal table when all is said and done. However, you can again expect a strong challenge to come from the Canadians, host Russia, Germany, and traditional powerhouse Norway.

To see if the US can win the men’s hockey gold

There are few events at the Winter Olympics that generate as much interest as ice hockey. Men’s ice hockey, in particular, is a premier event. The US men will be seeking to win their first Olympic gold medal in the sport since 1980. The country’s storied triumph on that occasion was highlighted by what became widely known as the “Miracle on Ice”, which saw a team of mainly college kids beat the all-powerful Soviet Union for the gold. The Soviet Union is no more and the Cold War era tensions that made that win so special for Americans have largely dissipated. However, eight-time Olympic champion Canada is starting to reestablish itself as the type of dominant force that the Soviet Union was between 1964 and 1980. Their team features a galaxy of National Hockey League (NHL) stars – including the Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby, who is widely regarded as the best player in the world. Other potent threats to the US’ chances of winning could come from Russia and Sweden.

To see if the US can win the women’s hockey gold

The US won the inaugural women’s Olympic ice hockey tournament in 1998. On that occasion, they got the better of Canada, defeating their friendly northern neighbor 3-1 in the gold medal game. However, in the ensuing three Olympic tournaments, the Canadian women have skated away with the gold medals. On two of those occasions, the US women were the ones on the wrong end of the result in the gold medal contest. The traditionally heated rivalry between the US and Canada has lost none of its intensity heading into Sochi. A recent Olympic warm-up series between the two nations saw the Americans getting the better of their Canadian arch rivals in four out of the six engagements. The duo has been placed in the same group – Group A – for the tournament. If both make it to the final, you’ll get to enjoy two matchups between the world’s two best teams.

To see how successfully Williams and Jones will transition

When bobsledders Lauryn Williams and Lolo Jones eventually make their debuts in Sochi, they’ll have the unique distinction of being among a handful of athletes to appear at both the Winter and Summer Olympic Games. Williams represented the United States in the 100-metre event at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympics. She won an individual silver medal in 2004 and sprint relay (4×100-metre) gold in 2012. Meanwhile, Jones represented the US in the 100-metre hurdles event at the 2008 and 2012 editions of the Games. In what reads like a storyline straight out of Cool Runnings, both will be looking to use the speed and power that made them formidable on the track to get their respective sleds hurtling down the track and ahead of the pack.

To see who’ll win the men’s singles figure skating gold

There are very few sports more readily associated with the Winter Olympics than figure skating. This is one of the reasons why the men’s singles figure skating event will be one of the most watched in Sochi. The other significant reason is the presence of the charismatic Russian competitor Evgeni Plushenko. The 31-year old Plushenko, who is a three-time former Olympic medalist, is likely to be the most recognizable face at the 2014 Games. In the absence of American defending champ Evan Lysacek, he’s also likely to start as the favorite to win his second gold medal in the event. It’ll be interesting to see if either reigning national champion Jeremy Abbott or runner-up Jason Brown will be able to get in the gold medal mix.

Where and when to watch

The NBC network will provide extensive coverage of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Approximately 539 hours of action is scheduled to air on NBC, NBCSN, MSNBC, CNBC, and USA Network. A further 1,000 hours of coverage is slated to be streamed online at NBCOlympics.com.

CES 2014 Showcases Top Tech Trends

What’s the next big thing? What’s new? What’s hot? What’s not? These are just some of the burning questions that get answered every year at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES). During this year’s staging of the always highly anticipated trade show, technology companies from all across the globe again descended on the Las Vegas Convention Center to showcase their latest prized products. Not surprisingly, freshly minted mega TVs and sleek mobile devices again captured the attention and imagination of many people who followed this edition of the event. However, there were many other types of products unveiled at CES 2014 that generated significant buzz among techies all around the world. The development of many of these gadgets was inspired by some prominent technology trends that have emerged in recent times. Without further ado, here’s a look at five of the top tech trends that highlighted the event.

Wearable Tech

There’s definitely no denying that the trend towards wearable technology is one of the coolest to come about within the last few years. The show at CES 2014 suggests that the wearable tech revolution won’t be grinding to a halt anytime soon. In fact, if anything, it’s gathering quite a bit more steam. The Meta Pro AR goggle, which won’t become commercially available for another couple months, is one of the latest additions to a lengthening line of reality augmenting eyewear. Its gesture-driven user interface can be used to manipulate a wide range of digital devices. However, it also packs a fair processing punch of its own. An Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB of RAM will allow users to run standard operating systems in their virtual world. The Peeble Steel was another example of wearable tech on display at the event. When it eventually comes out, it’ll be able to run a variety of useful apps and interface with a number of popular smartphones.

4K TVs

Tons of ultra high-definition (UHD) 4K TVs grabbed a lot of the limelight at CES 2014 as well. Almost all of the major television manufacturers got in on the act – including Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, LG, and Vizio. These 4K TVs are increasingly being touted as the wave of the future. In theory, they offer four times the level of visual definition served up by their presently popular 1080p kin. However, before you put that UHD TV at the top of your wish list, there’s one big thing to keep in mind: there’s not yet a wealth of compatible 4K programming available. This reality is guaranteed to change though – and quickly. The rapidly rising popularity of these televisions will ensure it.

Gesture Control

Clicking and tapping to control your digital devices is so passé. Well, maybe not quite yet. However, this is almost certain to become a reality if the gesture control trend in evidence at CES 2014 holds. Limited gesture control capabilities have been integrated into many of the consumer electronics that we’ve seen released in recent years. Now, it appears that a number of enterprising developers are primed to take it to a whole new level. Exhibit A: the Myo gesture and motion control armband. Instead of relying on cameras to detect your gestures, the Myo armband actually analyzes muscle activity within your forearm. It uses a number of muscle-linked sensors to determine that you’re making a variety of hand and finger gestures by gauging the level of tension it detects in your various arm muscles. It then communicates these gestural commands to your compatible digital device such as a gaming console or tablet via Bluetooth.

galaxy tablet

Galaxy NotePRO tablet

There was a time in the not too distant past when advancements in the consumer electronics arena were reflected in the progressively smaller sizes of some of our favorite gadgets. Increasingly, however, it appears that more and more companies are turning that paradigm on its head. Bigger is seemingly the new better. In acknowledgment of this trend, a high volume of “bigger than normal” devices were unveiled by electronics companies at CES 2014. Samsung grabbed many of the headlines when it showcased its big-screened Galaxy NotePRO tablet. The device’s 12.2-inch display dwarfs those carried by virtually all of its competitors within the tablet category. There were also a number of manufacturers who presented smartphones with huge 6-inch displays. Gargantuan TVs from the likes of Vizio and Samsung also captured the spotlight during the four-day electronics extravaganza.

Curved Displays

Quite a few of the gadgets paraded at CES 2014 featured curved displays. TVs and smartphones were among the devices that showed off their inviting curves to the numerous attendees who showed up. Huge curved TVs from Samsung and LG attracted their fair share of admirers. The promise of an improved viewing experience continues to fuel a lot of the interest revolving around these high-definition screens. The LG G Flex, which features a pronounced curved display, also made an indelible mark in the minds of many. Its arching form was designed to better fit the natural contour of the human face, bringing the microphone much closer to the mouth (and ear) than the standard flat phone does. In theory, this should lead to better voice and sound quality for the parties on both ends of the line.

CES 2014 showcased a host of exciting consumer electronics to the world. Many of the products on display reflected a number of trends that have been gradually gathering momentum over the last few years.

It’s truly proven itself to be many things to many different people. Now, there are plans in the pipeline to extend the functionality and fun that are characteristics of the X1 platform to mobile users throughout the country. The soon-to-be-released cloud-supported X1 TV app is the tool that the company intends to use to achieve this objective. It promises to instantly transform your mobile device – whether smartphone or tablet – into a feature-rich mobile TV. This will allow you to channel all of your favorite X1 features (and XFINITY programming) through the mobile device of your choice.

Tapping into the power of the cloud

This soon-to-be-released X1 TV app will allow millions of Americans to use their ever-present mobile devices to tap into the amazing capabilities provided by current and emerging cloud computing technologies. Internet Protocol (IP) streaming is the means by which you’ll be able to access all of the content that you’ve become so use to seeing on the TV sets within your home. All of this will be made possible by tapping into remote cloud-supported network resources that eliminate the need for you to rely on your trusty XFINITY X1 box. The only hardware that you’ll need is your smartphone or tablet. The successful installation of the app on any of these devices will pave the way for you to do a wide variety of things, including:

  • Watch live TV

There are various XFINITY apps that make it possible for subscribers to watch live streams of their favorite programs on their respective mobile devices. (The XFINITY TV Go app is one of the most popular examples) The new cloud-supported X1 app will extend this critical capability to its users as well.

  • Use video On Demand services

The extensive range of video On Demand services offered by Comcast allows you to assume power over programming like never before. The cloud-supported X1 app will place many of these capabilities right at your fingertips. You’ll be able to watch episodes of all your favorite TV shows and movies on your mobile device – just like you would’ve while cozying up on your couch at home. (The XFINITY On Demand library features thousands of exciting titles that can provide you with hours of riveting entertainment while away from your home.)

  • Use digital video recording features

Missing must-see programming is not something that the average XFINITY subscriber has to worry about. This peace of mind is due to the fact that they’re able to rely on a comprehensive range of digital video recording features. These features make it possible for all of your favorite programming to be recorded and stored for viewing at any later time that’s more convenient for you. What can you do with cloud-supported services?

More and more providers are relying on cloud-supported services to adequately cater to the needs of their customers. TV service providers are among those who are lining up to leverage the amazing capabilities of this rapidly evolving technology. Here are some of the things that many of the popular cloud-supported services allow you to do:

  • Back up your data

Backing up your data is vital. Cloud-supported services allow you to do just that with relative ease. They offer reliable and convenient storage of your data. They also facilitate equally easy retrieval so that you can quickly and efficiently proceed with what you’ve got to do. The fact that the data is stored off-site (remotely) means that you’ll rarely have to worry if the copy that’s stored on-site (locally) gets compromised in some way. Even in such instances, there’s always a good chance that you’ll have the cloud-stored data to fall back on.

  • Access network resources from anywhere

Users of cloud-supported services are typically able to access network resources from any remote location at which they happen to find themselves. This ease of access is based on the existence of a reliable Wi-Fi connection between the user (and the device they’re using) and the remote server on which the networked resources – inclusive of data – are stored. This is usually not the case with a hardwired network, which characteristically requires the user to maintain a physical connection between the device they’re using and the server at all times.

The XFINITY X1 platform provides Comcast customers with a wide range of very useful features. It also enhances their respective user experiences with a friendly and easily navigable interface that makes finding what you want to watch a breeze. The imminent release of a cloud-supported X1 TV app promises to extend all of this functionality to the mobile devices of millions of subscribers.

5 Tips to Protect Your Personal Info Online

Issues revolving around information security are continuing to cause cyber security experts more headaches and sleepless nights. In recent times, there have been quite a few highly publicized online security breaches that have allowed unauthorized individuals to gain access to the personal information of millions of people throughout the country. Users of many of the most popular social media platforms – including Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat – have been among those forced to fret about these unsettling invasions of privacy. In these high profile cases, extremely skilled hackers or ID thieves were the ones who masterminded and executed the intrusions. (They were able to successfully harvest a wide variety of sensitive information such as the names and addresses of users.) However, in many other similar incidents that take place daily, the people responsible for these violations are not super computer geniuses. Nope. Most of them rely on their opportunism and our negligence to gather a lot of the sensitive personal info that we’d much rather keep under wraps. Here are a few tips that can help you to protect your personal information online:

  • Be careful where you go

The vast majority of websites out there are administrated by reputable organizations. However, there are some that are used by scrupulous individuals to support the various underhanded schemes that they concoct. Many of these illegitimate sites front as bona fide online retail outlets. (It is quite common for these fake online stores to mimic the look and feel of popular legitimate ones.) This allows them to lure the unsuspecting into the trap that the people behind them have set. When unwitting purchasers enter their sensitive personal financial information – inclusive of credit card numbers – to complete various transactions, it is captured for unauthorized use by the people behind the website. The threat of having your personal info violated in this way is one of the main reasons why you need to be careful where you go online. Thankfully, the average browser has various security features that can limit your exposure to these dangers. It should be able to determine whether the website you’re trying to access is a trusted one by checking its security certificate. If it isn’t, it should notify you of this fact so that you can quickly detour.

 computer safety

  • Don’t disclose too much

There are many of us who get lulled into a false sense of security when we become members of some online communities. It’s not uncommon for us to think that everyone who has access to our profile is someone who means us well. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. There are numerous instances in which we accept friend requests from people whose sole intention is to snoop around as they try to find personal information that they can use to exploit our identity in some way. This is why it’s so important that you don’t disclose too much personal information online. Your detailed address and contact info can be used by unscrupulous people to target you.

  • Make your passwords as unique as possible

Passwords are required to gain access to numerous exclusive (and not so exclusive) places online. Sometimes, we have so many passwords tucked away in our heads that it’s extremely difficult to locate the right one for the particular website that we want to access at that time. As a result, many of us resort to making the ones that we’re required to come up with as simple as possible. Unfortunately, this often proves a big mistake. The simpler the password, the easier it is for someone to decipher it. This risk is heightened if said password is your name or a simple string of numbers such as “1-2-3-4-5”. A long alphanumeric password (inclusive of both letters and numbers) is always best.

  • Use security software on your Internet-enabled devices

There are many man-made threats floating around on the Internet. Spyware is among the most potent of these. Spyware is software that covertly infiltrates your Internet-enabled device. It then discreetly attaches itself to your hard drive. Thereafter, it quietly goes about the business of extracting data from your hard drive and transmitting it to the remote recipient who originally deployed it. Thankfully, there’s equally potent software available that can root out malicious software such as spyware. Many security suites that provide such protection can be downloaded for free from various online sources. Assuming that your budget permits, you can also choose to purchase and install one of the numerous security suites on the market.

  • protect personal information onlineDo not send overly sensitive, personal information in e-mails

Innumerable e-mails whiz around the Internet daily. Many of these messages contain sensitive information that their senders would like to keep exclusively between themselves and the intended recipient(s). However, the maintenance of this level of confidentiality does not always occur. It is now commonplace for hackers to gain access to the mailboxes of other individuals. Once in, they are free to do what they may with the information that they find. As it is virtually impossible for you to ensure 100% security of your mailbox, it is strongly advised that you don’t send overly sensitive, personal information via this medium.

The insecurity of personal information online is a challenge that many people have to grapple with daily. There are just so many threats that call the Internet home. Thankfully, there are a number of steps that you can take to limit your exposure to these grave dangers.

3 Reasons to Watch the 2014 Grammy Awards

If you’re a music lover, I’m sure that you would’ve circled January 26 on your calendar from the moment you heard that the date of the music industry’s biggest awards show had been brought forward. The Grammy Awards, whose 56th staging is fast approaching, traditionally takes place in February each year. However, in order to avoid a clash with the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the organizers and broadcaster CBS agreed to adjust the staging schedule.

2014 grammys

French Electronic music duo, Daft Punk, has a few nominations including Record of the Year.

This will allow the 2014 Grammys Awards to soak up all the attention and adulation usually directed its way by a national television audience that numbers in the tens of millions annually. While the date of the show may have changed, there’s a whole lot else that remains the same. The excitement surrounding the event is as frenzied as ever. There’s also a characteristically palpable sense of anticipation as the music industry’s best gear up to occupy center stage on their big night. Here’s a look at three of the reasons why you should watch this year’s Grammy Awards.

See Who’ll Win and Who Won’t

The majority of us watch awards shows such as the Grammys to see who’ll walk away with the numerous accolades that are being presented. However, it’s sometimes almost as intriguing to see who doesn’t end up making it on stage to collect a prize at the end of the night. There are many artists who’ll walk into Los Angeles’ Staples Center as pre-event favorites to win the respective awards for which they are nominated. (Oftentimes, they are given this pre-event favorite tag by fans that ultimately won’t have a say in whether they win or lose.) Unfortunately, many of these same artists will leave the building empty-handed. From year to year, it’s almost a given that the members of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), who vote to determine the various winners, will serve up a surprise (or two). What will the big surprises be this year? Will your favorite artist collect a coveted statute? You’ll have to tune in to find out. Here are some of the big award categories in which the surprises could occur:

  • Record of the Year

This is always one of the biggest awards up for grabs on Grammy night. This year is no different. “Locked Out of Heaven” (Bruno Mars), “Blurred Lines” (Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams), and “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk featuring Pharrell) are among the ones nominated in this prestigious category. “Royals” (Lorde) and “Radioactive” (Imagine Dragons) are the other records that will vie for top honors.

radioactive imagine dragons

Imagine Dragons

  • Album of the Year

Taylor Swift’s Red, Random Access Memories (Daft Punk), The Blessed Unrest (Sara Bareilles), The Heist (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis), and rapper Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City are the musical compilations in with a chance of winning the award for top album. American singer-songwriter Swift is the only one among this year’s nominees who’s previously savored victory in this category. Her 2008 effort Fearless secured her a treasured win in 2010. However, the past is likely to have very little bearing on the present on the night of the 26th.

  • Song of the Year

This accolade typically goes to the song that had the most people singing loudly and proudly, crying uncontrollably, or sitting down to think deeply for a while. This year’s nominated songs in the category definitely fit the bill. Bruno Mars’ funky but sensual “Locked Out of Heaven” and Lorde’s inspirational “Royals” are again nominated in another of the night’s premiere categories. The other singles on the ballot include “Just Give Me a Reason” (Pink featuring Nate Ruess), “Roar” (Katy Perry), and “Same Love” (Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert).

grammy nominations

Ringo Star and Paul McCartney are added to the performance lineup.

Enjoy the night’s live performances

The line-up of acts performing on Grammy night is always a stellar one. Many of the musical megastars who are nominated in the various categories will also be taking the stage to thrill the millions of fans around the country who’ll be tuning in. Some of your favorite artists – including Katy Perry, Daft Punk, Pink, Metallica, and Beatles greats Paul McCartney and Ringo Star – are among those already confirmed to perform. Watching such a glittering galaxy of stars performing live on one stage definitely isn’t something you’re able to enjoy every day.

See if Snoop Lion will finally win a Grammy

Reggae isn’t typically one of the genres that attract significant attention at the Grammys. However, the presence of a popular rapper-turned-reggae crooner (Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion) and someone bearing the signature Marley surname (Ziggy Marley) among the nominees has elevated the status of the category this year. (The success of reggae fusion artist Tessanne Chin on The Voice is another of the factors driving revitalized interest in this Jamaica-born genre heading into this year’s staging of the event.) Many people will be watching keenly to see if Snoop will finally end his fruitless run at the Grammys. (He hasn’t managed a win from 15 previous nominations.) Will he finally do it? Your guess is as good as mine.

When to Watch

You can watch the 56th annual staging of the Grammy Awards on the CBS affiliate in your area. Grammy Award-winning host LL Cool J will be on hand to pilot you through the proceedings. Showtime is 8 p.m. ET.

Potential Problems with Streaming

The ability to stream content online is coveted by millions of Americans. However, there are times when watching shows and movies by this means can be quite frustrating.  Depending on the speed and reliability of the Internet connection, you might be forced to contend with a number of unsavory issues that negatively affect your viewing experience. Ever had an experience where an issue with the connection causes the thriller you’re streaming to hang up just before the identity of the formerly faceless villain is revealed? Yep, we probably all have. One thing’s for sure: it’s always a major bummer. There are also issues that revolve around the availability of broadband Internet coverage that can stop any potential streaming plans dead in their tracks. From time to time, some of us have to leave our comfy urban abodes for remote rural areas where accessing a reliable broadband Internet connection may not be as easy as turning on your laptop, smartphone, or tablet. In such situations, the new download option that’s been added to Streampix allows subscribers to carry as many hours of entertainment with them as their hard drives can hold.

What’s so good about the upgraded Streampix?

Having the option to download movies and TV shows is something that many subscribers crave. It introduces a level of convenience into the picture that a streaming-only service is just not able to provide to you. There’s currently an array of content that subscribers are able to download via Streampix. This content can be conveniently viewed on a variety of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets – whether they’re supported by an Android operating system or iOS (Apple). The movies and shows that you’re able to download via Streampix are drawn from the provider’s extensive on demand library. This ever-expanding database includes over 100 movie titles. Featured among these are Academy Award-winning classics such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Casablanca, and Ben Hur. You can also download and stash electronic copies of contemporary cinematic hits such as Syriana. It’s also possible for subscribers to download episodes from a number of TV series. This growing list of programming options includes shows such as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Mona the Vampire. Though relatively limited at this point, there are plans in the pipeline to rapidly (and significantly) expand the range of content options available to subscribers.
